St. John Ambulance is the UK’s leading provider of first aid. The charity consists of no fewer than 44,000 volunteers making it one of the largest volunteer based charities in the UK. In 2005 the charity helped 132,000 people and trained a further 547,000 people in first aid.
St. John Ambulance volunteers are a familiar presence at public events throughout the UK, providing first aid and medical services to all in attendance, the London Marathon, Silverstone Grand Prix and the Wimbledon Tennis Championships are just some of the events that St. John Ambulance attend.
In addition to the first aid activities and services that the charity undertakes, much work is undertaken through community support programmes focused at delivering health and social care within the community. These community projects range from homeless care to mobile library services, school breakfast clubs and first responder schemes.
For all the work that the charity undertakes, St. John Ambulance receive no government funding and so rely on the monies earned from running training courses, small charges for certain public and private events and donations from the public, including the annual donations made through Wesser Ltd.
