Your Role
Door to door fundraising is all about personality. You’ll spend your days chatting to people from all walks of life and inspiring them to support the UK’s most respected Charities. It’s a challenging but highly rewarding role – if you’re a people person and love talking, then why not use it to make a difference (while getting paid!).
This job is a world away from your normal 9-5 with no two conversations the same. Our fundraisers work Monday-Friday; after meeting in a central location or your fundraising area between 11am,-1pm you’ll knock on doors until 6pm-8pm (start and end times are dependent on area and team) with an hour break for lunch.
You’ll be working in a different area every day, going door to door and speaking to members of the public about one of our charity partners – using your personality and passion to inspire them to support the charity with a regular direct debit donation.
This isn’t a job for the faint-hearted – you’ll need to be happy in all weather conditions, dealing with lots of rejection and working in a target-based environment, so you’ll need to be capable and comfortable of staying motivated under pressure. You’ll be rewarded for all your hard work with a guaranteed hourly rate, a bonus structure that rewards quality fundraising and a range of incentives (including international trips).
We’re currently recruiting for Fundraisers in:
- Birmingham
- Brighton
- Cambridge
- Hull
- Manchester
- Norwich
- Stoke-on-Trent
- Southampton
You’ll be fundraising all around the area and in surrounding towns and villages, so you need to be willing to travel all over the area (travel cost covered).
You’ll get first class training and support from our experienced team – as well as opportunities for development and travel.

Your Pay
As a Fundraiser, you’ll receive a guaranteed basic rate of £12.80 an hour paid weekly* (rising to £13.50 after 100 sign-ups). In addition, we have incentives and bonuses so your earnings are in your control – the more supporters you sign up, the more you are paid.
- Daily bonuses when you get more than 3 quality supporters in a day (£30-£150 each day)
- Increase to £15 an hour for achieving 15 supporters in a week
- Increases in your hourly rate for each additional supporter (up to maximum of £25 an hour)
- Loyalty bonuses – the longer you’re with us, the more you earn
Fundraising can be a challenging role, but we believe that if you are working hard and raising loads for our charities, you should be rewarded for it. See below for the earning potential:
| Supporters (Week) | Donations | Hourly Rate | Bonus | Weekly Earnings |
| 15 | £1,800 | £15 | £150 | £600 |
| 20 | £2,400 | £20 | £200 | £800 |
| 25 | £3,000 | £25 | £250 | £1,000 |
| 30 | £3,600 | £25 | £300 | £1,050 |
All bonuses and hourly rate increases are conditional on hitting minimum quality parameters (gift aid, over 40s, verification calls etc.).
In addition to your salary and bonuses, there are many more benefits to working at Wesser. For info on our staff development, international trips and other incentives, click ‘Your Benefits’.
*It takes about 3 weeks from your start for us to process your first week’s pay – after that you get paid every week.
Your Charities
In each of the countries in which we work, Wesser works for a small number of carefully selected charity partners. In the UK, we currently fundraise for St John Ambulance, Shelter and Oxfam. Depending on which team you join, you could be working for any one of these. Currently our teams are fundraising for:
St John Ambulance:
- Hull
- Manchester
- Norwich
- Stoke on Trent
Guide Dogs:
- Birmingham
- Brighton
- Cambridge
- Southampton
Shelter:
- No active teams
You can find out more about our charities below:
St John Ambulance
St John Ambulance was founded more than 140 years ago – and has been providing life-saving training for people across the UK ever since.
Today, St John Ambulance is best known for providing critical medical services alongside the NHS, supporting a network of over 30,000 first aid volunteers and training millions of people how to deliver emergency first aid.
In 2020 St John Ambulance mobilised the largest number of volunteers since the second world war to assist the NHS in vaccinating the UK population from the COVID19 virus.

Guide Dogs
Guide Dogs is the UK’s largest assistance-dog charity—and the only organisation in the country that both breeds and trains guide dogs. Supported almost entirely by donations and volunteers, they deliver a wide range of invaluable services for children and adults with sight loss: from matching individuals with expertly trained guide dogs and offering youth mobility programmes, to providing family support and advocacy. Their pioneering breeding programme, welfare-focused training, and network of regional centres empower people with visual impairments to live independently, confidently, and on their own terms.

Shelter
Since 1966 Shelter has been campaigning to ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to live. With nearly 1.3 million households on social housing waiting lists and over 120,000 in temporary accommodation, the UK is experiencing a housing emergency. Now more than ever, Shelter’s campaigns for better renters’ rights and building more social housing are key to defending the right to a safe home. Last year, through their emergency helpline, more than 15,000 households were able to get housing support and advice, and over 4,500 households benefitted from their legal advice service.

Your Benefits
In addition to your hourly wage and bonuses, there are many more benefits to working at Wesser:

- Leadership seminars – training sessions, socialising with other teams and rewards and recognitions for performance

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience?
No. Most people who start with us have never done a day of fundraising before. We provide industry leading training that will teach you everything you need to be a great fundraiser.
Can I work part-time?
In almost all of teams, we only offer 30 hour contracts. Our hours are fixed and you will need to be available to work Monday-Friday between 11am and 8pm. In our Brighton team, we are offering part time contracts – but you must be able to commit to 3 days/18 hours Mon-Fri (hours as above).
Can I work on the weekends?
No; our teams work Monday-Friday.
Is this commission only?
No; all our Fundraisers receive a guaranteed basic hourly rate of £12.80 an hour (paid weekly). Once you’ve recruited your 100th supporter, your hourly rate rises to £13.50. You can earn bonuses on top of your basic hourly rate, but these will always be on top of your basic pay.
How much can I earn?
All of our Fundraisers are paid basic hourly rate of £12.80 an hour (rising to £13.50 an hour once you’ve signed up your 100th supporter). In addition to the this we offer an excellent bonus structure that can earn you more than £1000 a week.
Is pay monthly or weekly?
It takes about 3 weeks from your start for us to process your first week’s pay – after that you get paid every week.
Do I have to hit targets?
Yes. Your basic hourly rate is always guaranteed, but this is still a target-based role – you need to be getting supporters on board for the charity to provide return on investment. You should be aiming for at least 15 long-term supporters each week. If you have a bad week here or there, it’s not the end of the world, but if you’re consistently underperforming, you’ll be put on performance management until you are consistently achieving what you need. Your Team Leader and managers will be on hand to give you all the training and help you need to get up to where you need to be.
Do I need to have a driving license/car?
No; you don’t need to be able to drive to be a fundraiser. As long as you can get to your central meeting location each day, we’ll cover the travel to your fundraising areas. If you are able to drive and have your own car, there may be an opportunity to be a team driver (mileage paid).
Do you provide training?
Yes; we provide full training to every new fundraiser to give you everything you need to be a great fundraiser, and 1-to-1 coaching from experienced fundraisers to help you at every step of the way.
Is training paid?
Your first day of training (over Zoom) is part of our assessment process, so is not paid. As soon as you begin knocking on doors, you’ll be paid for your work.
What about uniform?
We supply full charity branded uniform – suitable for all weathers!
Will I be working alone?
Teams always head to their fundraising area together. When you first start fundraising, you’ll be shadowing an experienced fundraiser, so you can get to grips with the job. After this training, you’ll be knocking on doors individually, although your team will always be nearby.
Who will I be working for?
While you will be employed by Wesser, you will be representing one of our prestigious charity partners. We work for three amazing charities in the UK: Shelter, Guide Dogs and St John Ambulance. You’ll find out more about which charity you’ll be working for during the recruitment process.
