Vegan Lockdown

It’s the vegan lockdown … da da da da … da da da da da

At the beginning of March I moved in with friends in Swindon (At their strictly vegan household!).

I had, for some time, been considering becoming vegan for various ethical, moral and health reasons. This was therefore the perfect opportunity for me to be thrown into the deep end with no choice but to be vegan.

I’m not going to lie, initially it was a struggle for someone who never ate many vegetables and lived on junk food, meat and dairy (including an addiction to extra mature cheddar cheese!)

After a few weeks of lockdown and experimenting with different foods and ingredients I am now at a point where I genuinely enjoy vegan food. I’ve even grown to really love an alternative plant based mature cheddar cheese – especially melted in a cheese toastie! I also discovered “Nooch” – which is the name used for Nutritional Yeast, which on first impression looks like fish food flakes. But sprinkled on the top of food it gives a lovely cheesy taste!

I’ve also found that I’m noticing no difference using soya milk instead of dairy milk – and even if I never stuck to being completely vegan, I know I’d definitely stick to using soya milk instead of dairy.

My vegan cooking adventure has been a big learning experience, but one which I’d recommend anyone try. Even for a few weeks. You’d be amazed at the things you learn and how much you can actually enjoy things you never thought you would.

Thanks for reading! Stay home and stay safe!
