Every year Wesser offers Student Ambassador roles to fundraisers who want to work on a part time basis representing Wesser at their university or college while studying. The Student Ambassador role is available to all students who have been fundraising with us for a minimum of 4 weeks and involves both promoting Wesser as a great place to work and selecting candidates for fundraising roles by utilising virtual interviews.
Having worked with Wesser since 2019 Manisha Kaur has been kind enough to offer an insight into her transition from fundraiser to student ambassador along with an insight into what the Student Ambassador role entails:
“Wesser is a great place to work as a student! I’ve been working for the organisation since 2019; first as a fundraiser and then as a student ambassador. There is so much about your time at Wesser that you can use as experience for future roles, or to build your career at the organisation.

So, as you’re on this page, I’ll assume you’ve already been a fundraiser for at least 5 weeks. This means you’ve already got a range of skills in customer facing role, including negotiation, persuasion and adaptive communication. As a student ambassador, you get to flex a wider range of skills including organisation, campaigning, problem solving and operating with autonomy. So, the variety of skills you can build on is great, particularly as you can really make the role what you want to be.
The day-to-day aspects of the job are really unique. You can be promoting the brand at your university one day and conducting interviews the next! It really is up to you how you want to shape the next phase of your time with Wesser (though interviewing is for sure the best bit!). So, in this sense, the role is super flexible.
The hours are also flexible and Wesser is really good for helping you to fit work around your studies. You can discuss your availability with your manager, and they accommodate this. Plus, there’s almost always an opportunity to pick up extra hours if you are less busy in any given week! The role was created with young students in mind, so naturally, it works really well for us.
The pay is definitely an attractive aspect of the role. Like with fundraising, you get a standard rate of pay, plus commission on every interviewee you pass, who completes training! So not only are the transferrable skills you learn great on your CV, but the earning potential is really good too!
