We at Wesser are grateful to be back in action and ready to work! It’s been a tough few months, but Covid19 will not be stopping us from helping those in need. Our main focus with the back to work relaunch was first and foremost the safety of our staff and the public. Safe to say that not only our fantastic fundraisers, but also members of the public have taken a great shine to our safety measures. The respect, appreciation and support has been commendable on both parts. Stay tuned to find out how our fundraisers are finding the new changes, and how the members of the public have responded.
It was lovely having the opportunity to interview one of our amazing fundraisers, Tommy Lindsay. Tommy has been with us since February and has 6 years’ worth of experience in fundraising and customer service! Proud father of two says that his motivation for fundraising was due to personal experience with family and wanted to take a hands on approach in making a difference, also the progression side of fundraising as there are plenty of good opportunities.
Do you feel like the safety measures implemented are good? Tommy says ‘’100% with Covid and prior to Covid, we had plenty of training for Covid safety measures and to do with social distance, it has been as safe as possible, as safe as a company can be! We even have a 2 meter selfie stick for iPad’s. It’s all about self-management and a level of trust, that allows us to self-manage, and work as a team, I believe everyone is respecting it.’’
When asked how Tommy is finding fundraising since the relaunch on the 17th August, his response was ‘’people are more understanding, more open to conversation and empathetic. They are happy to give up their time, their money, and want to understand what we are trying to achieve. We are respecting social distancing, so they appreciate that. We present social distance first thing. The process includes always carrying hand sanitiser, wearing facemasks, being 2 meters away from the door and always wiping down the equipment; not handing anything over and being very cautious not to touch anything. We always ask the public if they are happy to continue at the distance, the fact we are respecting it, people appreciate it.’’
How do you feel Covid has affected your work? ‘’Coming back has not been an issue, it’s given a higher motive to work harder and really want to focus. Everyone is respectful and promoting we are ethical and safe. We are very caring about people and they see that we genuinely care.’’
What were you looking forward to the most? ‘’The level of comradery and level of motivation. I also missed being around people, having a laugh with them. It’s great to be back with a team and work with fantastic people, missed them, missed work, being around people that make you feel happy.’’
Do you feel sufficiently prepared to work? ‘’Yes, I feel prepared 100%, everyone’s always prepared, really working well and efficiently.’’
What have you enjoyed the most in the last few weeks? ‘’Just talking to people again, learning about people and hearing stories. You never know who’s behind the door, always learning when you are talking to new people and watching a conversation grow, their face lights up, especially when we are the first people they have seen in months, they are happy to see us and have that interaction, it brightens up their day.’’
